The Great Mother is for Annamaria the female deity from which the human species originates. She is a black madonna, with large and fleshy lips and pronounced cheekbones that emphasize undisputed African origin of homo sapiens. Her eyes are closed as if to suggest a long meditative breath, prologue of creation, and the ochre red hair symbol of the earth that is also mother, of the blood that is life and of action.
